Koirala, Deuba discuss party unity, political issues
In a fresh attempt to end the political deadlock, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Nepali Congress (Democratic) president Sher Bahadur Deuba held discussion on Monday morning at the PM’s residence Baluwatar.
Resumption of the stalled parliamentary proceedings, unification between the Nepali Congress and NC (Democratic) and the next eight-party meeting were discussed during the meeting.
Deuba is learnt to have asked Koirala to speed up the process for party unification by forming a task force entrusted with full authority.
The NC (D) has already formed such a body.
After Koirala recently told veteran Congress leader KP Bhattarai that he was ready to accept Deuba as the senior vice president after unification, Deuba said he was not in favour of delaying unification process because of the differences on who should take what in unified Congress party. He also made clear that the two parties must unite from the top to bottom.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the main four parties are expected to meet later today to find a way out to the current political deadlock. nepalnews.com ia May 21 07
