I don't see possibility of Congress unity soon, says Deuba
Pouring cold water over the growing prospects of Congress unity, president of Nepali Congress (Democratic) Sher Bahadur Deuba has said he sees no possibility of it materialising anytime soon.
After meeting with Prime Minister and president of Nepali Congress (NC) Girija Prasad Koirala in the morning, Deuba has told media that he is frustrated with lack of initiative (towards unity) from NC.
"Every time he (PM Koirala) says he is positive and says he will initiate process, but every time he fails to do anything," Deuba said.
Deuba has refuted reports that he wanted position of acting party president or senior vice president in the united Congress. "I have not asked for any position. I have said there should be respectful unity from downwards. There are village committees, there are district committees, there are student wing and women wing. Unity means respectful unity at all these levels," he said.
"How long can I wait?" he asked, adding that he has failed to understand the reasons for the delay.
On Monday morning, Deuba had met with Koirala to discuss Congress unity and the current political situation.
The talks for Congress unity had gained pace after communist parties made moves to unite all leftist forces in recent weeks. On Friday, PM Koirala met with senior Congress leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai to talk about the party unity. This had led to speculations regarding Congress unity. But Deuba's statement on Monday could dampen the debate in the coming days. nepalnews.com sd May 22 07
