Govt invites agitating teachers for talks

The government today sent a formal letter to the agitating teachers for talks to resolve the current deadlock in education sector.

The government sent a formal letter to the Nepal Educational Republican Forum (NERF), which is leading the strike, after the meeting of the govt talks team comprising of Minister for Education and Sports Pradip Nepal, Minister of State for Education and Sports Mohan Singh Rathaur and the Education Ministry decided to that end.

In the letter, the government has vowed to meet the demands put forth by the forum, which includes among other things, providing salaries to private school teachers at par with public school teachers’, appointment letters and implementing the past agreements the government reached with the forum.

The NERF meeting held today morning had also decided to sit for talks with the government to resolve the current deadlock in education sector.

Similarly, the government has also invited the Maoist affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union –Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) for talks today. Earlier today, ANNISU-R students had staged a never heard before ‘half-naked’ demonstration in front of the Ministry of Education of Sports in protest of the government turning a blind eye towards the legitimate demands of the teachers and students.

Meanwhile, due to the indefinite school strike called by the NERF including seven other teachers’ organizations since Thursday, both government and private schools across the nation remain shut for the seventh consecutive day. nepalnews.com ag May 23 07
