NHRC appeals for end of school strike

Stating that education is a fundamental right guaranteed in the interim constitution, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a statement appealing to immediate end of strike in schools.

The Commission has said that apart from constitution, international conventions to which Nepal is a state party, too, prohibits violating children's right to education.

"The Commission's attention has been seriously drawn by the indefinite strike due to which future of over 7 million children has become uncertain," the statement says.

The Commission has urged the government, agitators, school management and other stakeholders to ensure smooth resumption of schools.
