Eight party meeting on Saturday, says PM

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that the meeting of top leaders of eight parties will be held on Saturday.

In his interaction with the delegation of seven trade unions on Thursday, PM Koirala said the meeting will fix new date for the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, reported Radio Nepal.

PM Koirala added that the eight parties will also make a resolve to refrain from organising any strike or agitation till CA elections.

According to Laxman Basnet, president of Nepal Trade Union Congress, they submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister. "We have made two main demands – revocation of Essential Services Act and formation of Labour Commission. We also raised concerns about the atrocities by YCL," he said.

He claimed that the PM assured to revoke the Act – which prohibits strikes in essential services sector. nepalnews.com sd May 24 07
