Talks today to open schools

Talks have been scheduled on Friday between agitating teachers and Education Minister in order to open the schools, which have remained shut down since May 17.

Under pressure from guardians and rights organisations, the agitating Nepal Educational Republican Forum and school operators held, separate, informal meetings with Minister of State for Education and Sports Mohan Singh Rathore on Thursday.

After the informal meeting, Rathore informed that on Friday, the agitating Forum will meet with Pradeep Nepal, Minister for Education and Sports. "After Friday's meeting between Minister and agitators, the problem will be resolved," he claimed.

Likewise, Gunaraj Lohani, president of the Forum, said that his organisation has decided to meet with Minister Nepal to end the agitation.

Earlier, Forum had refused to sit for talks with government-appointed team. They demanded to negotiate with the Minister. nepalnews.com sd May 25 07
