A programme on Nepal’s burgeoning travel and tourism industry was organised at the Nepalese embassy in London on May 24th to inform the British public about the latest political development in Nepal, according to a press release issued Friday.

Organized by Friends of Britain and Nepal, Nepal Tourism Organisation (FBNNTO) UK, the programme titled ‘Nepal Travel and Tourism Meet 2007’ requested British travel and tour operators ‘to capitalize the favourable time in Nepal since the country is now safe and secure for the travelers to visit’, the release said.

Welcoming the participants, the Charge d’ Affaires at the Nepalese embassy, Mr. Dipendra P. Bista, briefed the participants on the new and positive political developments in the country and hoped that Nepal would continue to be benefited by the support and co-operation of the United Kingdom and other friendly countries of the world.

On the occasion, chief guest of the meet, Gyan Chandra Acharya, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also thanked British travel and tour operators for their effort to sell Nepal in the UK tourism market.

Speaking on the same occasion, Majid Ahamed, Desk officer for Nepal from the Foreign and Common Wealth Office, UK said, “Nepal has amazed the international community including Great Britain by the achievements made in the last year, now it is our hope that Nepal will soon be able to move forward not only as a popular travel destination but economically as well.”

President of (FBNNTO) UK Raja Ram Giri while welcoming the guest requested all participants to help promote Nepal more effectively, especially in the light of unfolding political developments in the country.

Nearly one hundred fifty tour operators, travel agents, airlines, members of Foreign and Common Wealth Office (FCO), UK trade and Investment, members of Britain Nepal Chamber of Commerce, among others took part in the meet.
