House adjourned again

Parliamentary proceedings could not begin today also as the Madhesi lawmakers and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) vowed not to allow parliamentary sitting unless their demands were addressed.

Even before the House could convene, Speaker Subash Nemwang issued a notice stating that the House had been adjourned until 1:00 pm tomorrow.

Nemwang held meetings with some leaders and Madhesi lawmakers in the last couple of days but got no clear assurance from them to bring the House back into business.

The interim parliament remains stalled with Madhesi MPs demanding a review over the recommendations of the Electoral Constituency Delimitation Commission. Earlier, the Maoist MPs had also obstructed the parliamentary proceedings opposing the formation of the commission, but they had later agreed to withdraw their protest. The RPP has also joined the bandwagon saying the government and the eight parties did not involve it in deciding political matters.

Successive meetings of the ruling eight-party alliance have failed to forge consensus on resuming parliamentary proceedings. nepalnews.com mk May 30 07
