House deadlock ends

The long-stalled interim legislative parliament reconvened Thursday after the lawmakers from the Madhesi community and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) agreed to allow parliamentary proceedings.

The House sitting resumed at 3:30 pm.

The deadlock ended after several rounds of discussions with the Madhesi and RPP lawmakers. The protesting lawmakers said they agreed to allow the parliamentary proceedings with the hope that their demands would be addressed through at the earliest.

The eighty parties arrived at a consensus Thursday morning to review the report of Electoral Constituency Delineation Commission (ECDC), which had been one of the demands put forward by the Terai MPs.

The RPP leaders also agreed to withdraw their protest after a meeting with Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Speaker Subash Nemwang this morning.

The party has demanded its participation in the local bodies to be formed in near future and formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the killing of its MP Krishna Charan Shrestha, among others.
