MJF says it will not to abide by 22-pt pact anymore; announces fresh stir

The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) has said the 22-point agreement with the government has become meaningless after the suspension of constituent assembly polls slated for next month.

Speaking at a press conference in the capital Saturday, MFJ chairman Upendra Yadav said the party would not abide by the 22-point agreement anymore as the government has, by suspending the CA polls, "gone against the sentiment of the people as well the spirit of the agreement".

Accusing the government of failing to maintain rule of law and communal harmony, Yadav demanded that the existing government be dissolved to give way for an all-party ‘election government’, which will also include civil society representatives. He also reiterated the MJF demand for immediate dissolution of the interim parliament.

With the demands for a new government and proportional representation-based election system, the MJF has announced "peaceful protests" in several districts across the country on Oct 10.

The MJF had reached 22-point agreement with the government on August 30, agreeing to call off the protest programmes it had been carrying out in the Terai region as the government pledged to fulfill some of its demands including compensation to the families of those killed in protests in Terai and return of properties seized by the Maoists during the insurgency. nepalnews.com mk Oct 06 07
