RPP-Nepal to root for monarchy in CA election
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP-Nepal) led by Rabindra Nath Sharma has become the first party to have publicly declared that it will be asking for votes in support of constitutional monarchy in the upcoming November election.
Addressing a zonal level training programme of its workers in Kathmandu on Friday, Sharma instructed his party workers to ask votes in favour of constitutional monarchy in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
Sharma has said that he believes that some form of monarchy as an institution is essential for upholding independence, sovereignty and integrity of Nepal.
He said that though other parties have decided to campaign in favour of republic, his party will stick to the constitutional monarchy.
While most of the ruling alliance members have declared to support republic in the country - barring the Nepali Congress which is yet to firmly state its preference in the polls - the RPP-Nepal has become the first party to publicly declare it will campaign for monarchy. Even other right wing parties like RPP led by Pashupati SJB Rana and Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) led by Surya Bahadur Thapa have yet to clarify whether they will campaign for monarchy or not in the upcoming polls.
As per the Interim Constitution, the first meeting of the elected CA will decide the fate of monarchy by a simple majority. nepalnews.com sd Sep 01 07
