Hooch kills 9 more in Janakpur
Nine more villagers have died after drinking spurious liquor in the outskirts of Janakpur Municipality.
The death toll has risen to 22 by Sunday afternoon. According to reports, four people had died last night while five more deaths were reported today. Dozens of people had fallen sick after consuming contaminated alcohol made in a local distillery.
Laboratory test has shown urea contamination in the alcohol, police said. Five people working at the distillery located at Machhabazaar have been arrested in connection with brewing and selling contaminated alcohol.
Irate villages in Janakpur staged protest this afternoon against the local administration for failing to check the sale of spurious liquor in the area. They also vandalised some liquor shops in the outskirts of Janakpur. nepalnews.com mk Sep 02 07
