EC permits 43 organisations to monitor the polls

The Election Commission (EC) has given the authority of constituent assembly elections observation to 43 national and international organisations, a statement by the EC on Sunday said.

The organisations receiving the permission include National Election Monitoring Alliance, Nepal Election Observation Committee, Carter Centre, Asian Network for Free Elections, NGO Federation Nepal, Institute for Human Rights and Peace, Nepal Bar Association among others.

According to the EC, the organisations have claimed they would deploy more than 70,000 observers during the elections.

In the meantime, the EC has asked the Ministry of Justice, Law and Parliamentary Affairs to permit it to constitute the Constituent Assembly Member Election Court.
