New OHCHR-Nepal chief arriving Tuesday
Newly appointed Representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal, Richard Bennett, is arriving in Kathmandu on Tuesday to assume his office.
UN Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour had announced his appointment on June 8th this year.
Before his appointment as OHCHR chief, Bennett had been serving as the Representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Afghanistan and Chief Human Rights Officer in the UN Mission in Afghanistan.
He has also served with the UN in senior human rights posts in East Timor and Sierra Leone. Prior to joining the UN, Bennett worked for many years with the New Zealand Human Rights Commission and the Ministry of Justice.
