NC, NC-D begin discussions on CA strategies, unification

The separate central committee meetings of the Nepal Congress and Nepali Congress Democratic have resumed on Wednesday to discuss the parties' agenda for the forthcoming constituent assembly election and their unification drive.

The NC meeting underway at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar will chalk out strategies and agenda for the election. The team of Chakra Prasad Bastola, entrusted to develop the party manifesto for the election, will present its draft for discussion.

The meeting has been called amidst reports that NC may opt the agenda of establishing republican democracy in the county through the first sitting of the constituent assembly.

On Tuesday, party general secretary Ram Chandra Poudel hinted that republic will be their agenda even as a section of the party led by its central committee member Narahari Acharya handed over the draft of party manifesto to Bastola that pressurises the party leadership to go for republic agenda.

The NC meeting is also expected to debate the party unification in detail with the approaching election date. The team working for unification will report about their progress at the party meeting.

Concurrently, the NC-D also has resumed the central committee meeting that is expected to focus on party unification and role of its leaders.

NC-D president Sher Bahadur Deuba has asked to accelerate the unification process and has warned to start election campaign unilaterally if the unification is delayed further. nepalnews.com ia Sep 05 07
