EC offers 2 million euros for Nepal in emergency aid
The European Commission (EC) has allocated 2 million euros for Nepal in response to the damage caused by this year’s monsoon.
The assistance is a part of the emergency relief package which focuses on the distribution of food rations and the provision of drinking water, emergency shelter and healthcare, in particular to prevent outbreaks of water-borne diseases¸ EC release stated Wednesday.
This new funding will cover the affected population’s needs in shelter, food and non-food items, drinking water, sanitation as well as short term rehabilitation.
Similarly, the EC has also allocated 4.5 million euros for India and 2.5 million euros for Bangladesh for the same purpose.
The next step is to assist the recovery of livelihoods, damaged housing and water-sanitation facilities, EC said.
In 2007 alone, the European Commission has implemented 10 million euros worth of humanitarian assistance in Nepal. nepalnews.com ag Sep 05 07
