Parliamentary hearing on CJ-designate Giri deferred
A meeting of the Parliamentary Special Hearing Committee (PSHC) scheduled to discuss the complaints registered against the Supreme Court Chief Justice designate Kedar Prasad Giri Thursday has been put off.
The hearing process is said to be deferred because of the “serious nature” of the complaints.
More than 12 complaints have been registered at the PSHC against Giri since the parliamentary committee issued a public notice inviting individuals to register complaints against him by Wednesday following his nomination by the Constitutional Council last week.
In the complaints individuals have mostly accused Giri of failing to maintain professional ethics in his judicial career and also raised serious moral questions against Giri.
A nine-member parliamentary Investigation Committee has been constituted by PSHC to probe into these complaints against Giri.
The CJ designate came into the radar for his controversial verdict related to financial embezzlement in Mahalaxmi Sugar Mill some time back. After commercial banks filed complaints against Giri in the parliament, the Public Accounts Committee had also discussed whether to impeach Giri. nepalnews.com ag Sep 06 07
