CEC demands acceleration of polls campaign
Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokhrel has again called upon the political parties to immediately come up with election campaigning programmes to create an environment for the November 22 polls.
Speaking at an interaction programme in Biratnagar on Friday, Pokhrel asked the political parties to realise the fact that election could not be held in June due to their inability to reach the people. He alerted the parties not to let same circumstances repeat this time, adding it would tarnish the image of the nation in the international arena.
He said the polls must not be just a facade to get votes, rather the beginning of the process for transformation of the conflict and leading a new Nepal into a path to prosperity and progress.
Pokhrel also stressed on the role that media can play to create the environment for polls and urged media persons to take over the responsibility to teach the people.
Speaking at the same function, general secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Mahendra Bista said the media sector has been facing a critical situation, worse than during the King's direct rule. nepalnews.com ia Sep 07 07
