5 die as microbus gets swept away by river in Bara
Five persons who had gone missing after the microbus they were travelling in was swept away by swollen Dhansar River along the East-West highway in Bara district last night have been found dead.
The dead have been identified as Narottam Rajbhandari of Tahachal, Kathmandu, his wife Sami Rajbhandari, Jivan Joshi of Maharajgunj, Jayanti Joshi of Patan and Indreni Prasai from Kalanki, police said. Their bodies were recovered some 12 kilometres away from where the microbus had been swept away by the river.
The microbus with the number plate Ba-1-Ja 8852 was heading towards Kathmandu from Dhankuta, carrying wedding attendants.
Another five persons – driver Anil Tamang, owner of the microbus Chet Bahadur, Uma Shrestha, Raju Shrestha and Shivani Shrestha of Kathmandu – were rescued by the locals.
They have suffered minor injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the Primary Health Centre in Chandranigahpur.
After the bridge over the seasonal Dhansar River had been swept away by a few days ago, vehicles have been driving through the riverbed during daytime when the current is usually low. The accident, however, occurred at around 11pm Saturday night. nepalnews.com ag Sep 09 07
