House committee to probe complaints against envoy-nominees

The Parliamentary Special Hearing Committee (PSHC) has decided to form sub committee to probe the complaints filed against envoy-nominees.

The PSHC decided to approve or disapprove their nominations only after the report by the sub-committee.

The sub-committee had to be formed after there were serious complaints filed against some of the envoy nominees.

Largest numbers of complaints have been filed against Shailaja Acharya – nominated to head Nepali mission in New Delhi. She has been charged of being supporter of royal regime.

According to Nepal Samacharpatra, a serious complaint has been filed against Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise – nominated to head Nepali mission in Washington DC. Dr. Chalise, who is foreign policy advisor of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, has been accused by a lady who has claimed that he had taken Rs 910,000 from her by promising to send her to Britain. In the complaint sent through an email, she has also claimed that she is four months pregnant with his child. Other nominees have also attracted some complaints.

The committee is also investigating complaints against nominees for National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

As per the interim constitution, such appointments have to be cleared by the PSHC. The PSHC calls the public to file complaint against the nominees and gives its decision after investigating them. nepalnews.com sd Sep 11 07
