Hearing of envoy-designates continue

The Parliamentary Special Hearing Committee (PSHC) continued hearing of the ambassador-designates for the remaining 13 countries on Friday.

The committee had completed hearing of eight ambassador-designates on Wednesday. The members, on Wednesday, unanimously approved the seven ambassador-designates except Shailaja Acharya, proposed to be the Nepali envoy to India.

Some one dozen complaints have been filed against Acharya while few others have one or two. She has been charged of supporting of royal regime. However, the complaints filed against Dr Suresh Chalise by a woman could not be substantiated as no one appeared before the hearing committee with documents to prove the charge. A lady had reportedly made serious charges against Acharya via email. The parliamentary committee had called all the accusers to appear before the panel with documentary evidence of the accusations.

Dr. Chalise – nominated to head Nepali mission in Washington DC, is a foreign policy advisor of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. The lady had claimed that Chalise had taken Rs 910,000 from her by promising to send her to Britain. In the complaint sent through an email, she had also claimed that she is four months pregnant with his child.

The hearing procedure is expected to be completed by this evening since it has to be completed within 15 days from the day government proposes the names. nepalnews.com ia Sep 14 07
