Indian foreign secretary in Kathmandu
Indian foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon arrived in Kathmandu on a two-day visit Saturday afternoon.
Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Menon told media persons that he would discuss issues of bilateral concern and the Indian assistance for upcoming constituent assembly election.
Menon is to hold separate meetings with UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, Nepali Congress (Democratic) president Sher Bahadur Deuba and chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) Surya Bahadur Thapa this evening.
During his stay here, the Indian foreign secretary will also meet Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Maoist chairman Prachanda and foreign minister Shahana Pradhan.
Menon’s visit is being watched with keen interest in Nepal. During his parleys with key political leaders, the Indian foreign secretary is expected to clarify India’s position over the current political scenario especially the looming political crisis with the Maoists preparing to quit the coalition government and launch nationwide protest movement. nepalnews.com mk Sept 15 07
