Mahato elected NSP-A chairman
The general convention of the dissident faction of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) underway in Birgunj has elected Rajendra Mahato as chairman of the party, unopposed.
Mahato, who is also the Minister for Industries, Commerce and Supplies, was the sole candidate for the post. Ironically, the convention has decided to go with the same party name - NSP (Anandi Devi) - even as it relieved chairperson Anandi Devi Singh of her post through ‘no confidence’ vote.
Meanwhile, a five-member committee of NSP leaders is trying to choose 20 central committee members without voting. 37 candidacies were filed today for the 20 elected seats. The convention on Friday had decided to downsize the 61-member central committee to 41-member.
The convention is likely to conclude later today if the committee finalises the 20 names, reports from Birgunj said. 21 other central members will be nominated by the party leadership. nepalnews.com mk Sep 15 07
