Menon discusses CA polls, Terai issues with PM
Visiting Indian foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon met with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter’s residence in Baluwatar Sunday morning and discussed the latest political developments here.
It is learnt that the discussion between Menon and Koirala focused on preparations being made for November 22 elections to constituent assembly, finding solution to the Terai crisis, security arrangement in Terai and sealing of the southern border during the polls.
The Indian foreign secretary said India was ready to extend any support it could afford to make the CA elections a success.
Later today, Menon is scheduled to meet Speaker Subas Nemwang, Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan, among others, before returning to Delhi.
On Saturday, he held discussion with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and Maoist chairman Prachanda and Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai.
Menon is visiting Nepal amidst threats from the Maoist to quit the government for street revolt and decision of the Nepali Congress to opt democratic republic. nepalnews.com ia Sep 16 07
