China ‘ready ‘to rescue Nepal from petroleum crisis

In a wake of reports that the shortage of petroleum products is going to deepen further, China has said it is willing to supply petroleum products to Nepal to solve the oil crisis the nation is facing from the past couple of months.

The visiting high level delegation of Chinese officials led by Li Yu Lan, deputy governor of China’s Gangzong province, met with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter’s residence in Baluwtar Sunday morning and expressed China’s willingness to supply petroleum products to Nepal, according to PM’s foreign affairs advisor Dr Suresh Chalise.

This is the first time China has assured Nepal of supplying petroleum products in a formal manner.

Earlier, the Chinese ambassador to Nepal had told PM Koirala that China was ready to export petroleum products to Nepal in order to ease the crisis.

China’s formal assurance of supplying petroleum products to Nepal has come at a time when the government is mulling to cut subsidy on oil and hike petro prices in order to enable the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the sole distributor of petroleum in Nepal, to clear its dues to its Indian provider, the Indian Oil Corporation. nepalnews.com ag Sep 16 07
