Rival NSP factions clash over party office

The bitterness between the rival factions of the Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) became all too evident Monday afternoon when activists of the two factions resorted to fistfights while trying to take possession of the party’s central office located at Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

Clash started after a group of NSP activists led by Shyam Sundar Gupta tried to bar another NSP group supporting the newly appointed chairman Rajendra Mahoto from taking over the party office.

Police took the area under control to thwart further violence.

The NSP factions are up in arms against each other for some time now and both are projecting themselves as the party establishment.

The NSP dissidents completed their general convention in Birgunj on Saturday, electing commerce minister Mahato as the party chairman and relieving Anandi Devi of the top post. nepalnews.com mk Sep 17 07
