NC candidates leading in most Kathmandu constituencies

Supporters of Nepali Congress (NC) vice-president Prakash Man Singh took out a victory rally in Kathmandu, congratulating and smearing vermillion over each other's face immediately after he was officially declared a winner in Kathmandu constituency no 1 after having securing 14,315 votes. Prior to that the NC supporters had held an impromptu celebration in front of the City Hall where the counting was carried out.

Singh defeated Unified Marxist Leninist (UML's) Pradeep Nepal, who bagged
over 6708 and Maoists' Ram Man Shrestha who bagged 4898 votes. The vote counting result of Kathmandu 1 constituency came out this morning. Its results came quickly since the Election Commission (EC) had used Electronic Voting Machines in that constituency.

However, counting is at its initial stage in remaining nine constituencies of Kathmandu and the officials say results are expected after a few hours.

According to the latest updates obtained by Nepalnews.com, CPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is leading in constituency no 10 in Kirtipur with 931 votes till press time (13:20 pm). His closest rival Rajendra Kumar K.C of the Nepali Congress has got 541 votes while Sanu Kumar Shrestha of UML has got 335 votes.

The Maoists are trailing behind CPN-UML in Kathmandu constituency no 2 with their candidate Jhakku Prasad Subedi getting 1141 votes till now while his closes rival, UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has got 709 votes and Nepali Congress candidate Dipak Prasad Luintel 673 till now.

But in constituencies 3,4, 5 and 9 NC candidates are leading in vote counts while UML's Yogesh Bhattarai is expected to clinch victory in constituency no 6.

According to the latest voting updates, UML candidate Rameshwor Fuyal is expected win in constituency no 3 as he has got an overwhelming 2053 votes till now. His closes rival Chakra Thakuri of Nepali Congress has got 2003 votes while Munu Humagain of CPN-Maoist has got 876 votes  votes till now.

Similarly in constituency no 4 NC's Suprabha Ghimire is leading the vote count with 2184 votes while Vidhya Devi Bhandari of UML has got 1566 votes and Pawan Man Shrestha of CPN-Maoist has got 1475 votes till now.

The NC candidates are also leading the vote count in constituency no 5 and 9 while results are still awaited in Constituency 7 and 8. nepalnews.com ag Apr 11 08
