MJF ready to extend conditional cooperation to Maoists
The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) has said it is ready to extend cooperation to the Maoists in the formation of next government if the latter agrees to accord priority to the Madhesi issues.
The MJF, which has bagged 52 seats in the Constituent Assembly (CA) to become fourth largest party, has warned it could launch new revolt if Madhesi issues are sidelined.
“The MJF has been raising Madhesi issues since past and they include formation of autonomous Madhes province and priority of Madhesi people in administration and governance,” said Upendra Yadav, coordinator of MJF.
He said that currently Nepal was passing through complications generated by the interim constitution (regarding formation of the government).
He asked Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to step down and amend the interim constitution to pave the way for formation of new government.
“The provision in the interim constitution stating the necessity of two-third majority to form a government should be amended to state that a simple majority can form a government,” he said.
He also pointed out the need to delete the inclusion of names of specific political parties and MPs in the interim constitution.
“The MJF will play its role in ending this political deadlock,” he said. nepalnews.com sd Apr 27 08
