The meeting of the central working committee (CWC) of Nepali Congress resumed at Prime Minister and party president Girija Prasad Koirala's official residence in Baluwatar Monday.
The CWC meeting will analyse the causes of the recent electoral defeat of the party and will devise future strategies. The meeting will also finalise the name list of candidates to be elected to the constituent assembly under the proportional representation (PR) system.
The meeting is also expected to come up with the party's official view on the formation of a new government. On the first day of the meeting on Thursday, some CWC members had suggested that Koirala continued as Prime Minister, citing the constitutional provisions that require two-third majority to change the government's leadership.
Activists of the NC's student wing, Nepal Students Union (NSU), had demonstrated in front of the meeting venue earlier today, demanding that the party announce the date for the NSU general convention to choose a new leadership.
To exert pressure on the CWC members to take a decision to that effect, the protesting NSU men had even tried to prevent the vehicles of some leaders from entering the meeting venue. nepalnews.com mk Apr 28 08
