Four parties pack up meeting without result, agree to meet on Friday
The meeting of senior leaders of four big parties portrayed as 'crucial,' has ended, Thursday evening, without any result.
They, however, have agreed to meet again on Friday morning.
The leaders of four parties – Nepali Congress (NC), Unified Marxist Leninist (UML), Maoists and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) – had held talks at Hotel Vaishali in Thamel. But they could not reach to final agreement on the issue of letting the Maoists form the government.
Reports say that the NC leaders have demanded 'package' agreement on power-sharing as well as implementation of past agreements.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' said that the parties have agreed to let the Maoists head the government.
"There are four things being discussed. First is to create the environment of trust, second is the finalisation of Common Minimum Programme, third is the code of conduct and the fourth is the division of (ministerial) portfolio," Prachanda said.
"The discussions are heading positively. We plan to end the discussion by tomorrow (Friday) and then approach the president," said Prachanda. The president's invitation to the Maoists to form the new government will expire on Friday.
"The discussions are evolving towards agreement. But I still cannot guarantee that it will succeed tomorrow," Prachanda added. nepalnews.com sd Aug 07 08
