Power-sharing efforts hit a hitch, CA stirred into action
Amid the tug-o-war between the Maoists and Nepali Congress (NC) over the Defense portfolio in the new dispensation, the parties have hit a snag in their efforts to forge understanding to form new government.
As their parleys continues to prolong, Monday is also expected to see a series of meetings and consultations among the big four – NC, Maoists, Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF).
Their consultations will proceed side by side with procedure for electing the prime minister through the Constituent Assembly (CA).
The CA has been stirred into action after the president sent it an official letter asking it to elect the new PM. The president wrote the letter after the Maoists failed to forge such agreement within the prescribed deadline.
The Work Management Advisory Committee of the CA is set to meet, Monday at around 11 am, to discuss and determine the procedure for PM election and finalise its schedule.
"The CA efforts do not bar us from still trying to forge consensus," said Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara. nepalnews.com sd Aug 11 08
