Koirala consults with Congress CA members; reiterates claim over defence
portfolio
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala met with the Constituent Assembly
members of Nepali Congress to discuss the issue of formation of new
government.
During the meeting held at his official residence in Baluwatar Monday
morning, PM Koirala, who is also the president of the Congress party,
instructed the CA members to strongly uphold the party's position
regarding the transfer of government leadership to the Maoists.
According to NC leaders attending the meeting, Koirala indirectly hinted
at clinging on to the demand for defense ministry for his party to join
the new government.
Responding to party leaders who opined against the idea of joining the
Maoist led government, Koirala, however, indicated that NC would
participate in the government to ease the constitution making process.
The NC CA members also raised questions over the continued unruly
activities of the Maoist-youth wing Young Communist League and failure of
the government to control the food and oil prices.
Meanwhile, the four big parties have continued their efforts to form a
government of consensus. They are scheduled to hold internal and bilateral
talks over the issue today as well. nepalnews.com ia Aug 11 08
