'Make Hindi Nepal's second national language'

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aligned Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) has demanded that Hindi language be made the ‘second national language’ of Nepal after Nepali.

Immediately after accession of CPN (Maoist) supremo Pushpa Kamal Dahal to the post of Prime Minister, the top leader of the ultra Hindu fundamentalist organization demanded that Hindi be given "constitutional recognition as the second language" as it has become ‘a contact language’ in Terai.

India's main opposition party BJP has said it supports this demand of RSS.

"We demand that Nepali language be the first language and Hindi second," Indresh Kumar, party's senior publicist and ‘Nepal expert’, told Kantipur.

It is worth mentioning here India has recognized Nepali as one of its main languages. Hindi itself is the second language in India after English. The Indian constitution is written in English and the country's Supreme Court (SC) also conducts its hearing in English. nepalnews.com Aug 20 08
