Over a dozen journalists arrested in Kathmandu
Police arrested over one dozen journalists including vice president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Govinda Acharya while staging a sit-in in front of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu Wednesday.
The journalists continued the protest to support the demands of their fellow journalists from Nepal1 Television channel concerning the work conditions and facilities. The protests continue since a month after the management of the TV channel, operating from New Delhi closed its Kathmandu office.
The demands raised by the agitating journalists include salary raise, regular payments, appointment letters and other facilities to which the management had agreed last year.
The central committee meeting of the FNJ held Wednesday morning decided to intensify the agitation to support the cause of journalists working in Nepal1 TV. A struggle coordination committee has been formed. nepalnews.com ia Aug 20 08
