Dr. Bhattarai piqued over efforts to downgrade his position in cabinet

Finance Minister and senior Maoist leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai is said to have expressed his dissatisfaction over the decision of his party to let the UML leader Bamdev Gautam have the second position in the cabinet, according to Kantipur daily.

The daily quotes sources as saying that Dr. Bhattarai even threatened to resign from the cabinet unless the decision is reconsidered.

The differences came to the fore at the central secretariat meeting of the Maoists, Friday.

This led to delay in the cabinet expansion, which was to take place on Friday.

The daily adds that the expansion would lead to appointment of three deputy prime ministers – Bamdev Gautam from UML, Dr. Bhattarai from Maoists and Upendra Yadav from Madhesi Janadhikar Forum.

It adds quoting sources as saying that the Maoists have also reached internal understanding to give the job of acting prime minister to Dr. Bhattarai every time Prime Minister goes on foreign trip by ensuring that minister Gautam will also accompany him. nepalnews.com sd Aug 30 08
