Rallies organised against murder of journalist Joshi
Demonstrations and protests rallies were organised across the nation on
Monday against the murder of Kailali-based journalist Jagat Prasad Joshi.
Reports from Sindhupalchok, Kailali, Dang, Morang, Siraha and other
districts say journalists, political activists and social workers joined
the protest rallies demanding that the government track down the murderers
of Joshi and punish them.
The continued strike in Dhangadi and Attaria in far-west on the third
consecutive day paralysed the normal life while in other districts only
rallies were organised.
Editor of Jahadisha daily's Dhangadi edition and Kailali district chief of
the CPN (Maoist)-aligned Revolutionary Journalists Association had gone on
missing on October 8. His body was recovered from a local forest in
Kailali on Friday.
Family members of the Joshi alleged that the Maoists themselves were
involved in the murder since they paid no attention towards find out his
whereabouts despite several requests.
Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Sindhupalchok and Dang district
committees organised rallies in district headquarters. Rally in Chautara
was attended by politicians, journalists and civil society activists. They
demanded compensation for bereaved family and arrest of those involved in
the murder.
