Kirats call off strike, tea workers clamp strike in Mechi

Following the release of their cadres, Pallo Kirat Rastriya Manch has called off their strike in Mechi zone.

The Manch had called for two-day transportation strike from Sunday demanding release of its cadre Sagar Lama who was arrested from Jhapa last week.

Three other cadres arrested on charges of vandalism Sunday were also released. After the release, the Manch in a statement said the strike has been called off.

However, the Mechi Tea Estate workers called another transportation strike along the Mechi highway saying their salaries were not increased as per previous commitments.

Residents of Mechi zone, who saw sign of relief after the Manch called off its strike, face another setback as vehicles have not been able to ply on the Mechi highway due to blockade.

Conversely, in Dhankuta district, an all-party meeting declared the district as strike-free effective from Monday. A press meet organised by district police office today stated no one could call strike in the district.

Earlier, Dhading was also announced as strike-free district but in recent weeks, the district saw array of bandhs called by various groups. nepalnews.com ia Dec 08 08
