FOSS Nepal receives global accreditation
The FOSS Nepal Community has been accredited as one of the three global
winners for the second consecutive year in the Software Freedom Day (SFD)
2008 Best Event Competition.
The announcement to this effect was made on the SFD website by Software
Freedom International, which coordinates the SFD celebration worldwide,
according to a press release issued by the FOSSs Nepal Community.
SFD is an annual grass roots effort to educate the public on the virtues of
Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) and also to encourage its use, to the
benefit of the public.
SFD is marked on the third Saturday of every September. The 2008 event took
place on September 20 and was celebrated by over 500 teams from over 120
countries all around the world. In Nepal, the celebration was organized by
FOSS Nepal Community for the fourth successive year with the theme "Create,
Share, Collaborate". Over 1000 people had attended the event.
The community has been organizing a series of awareness programmes, orientations, talk programs, discussion programs, install-fests, initiating
