Industries in Birgunj-Pathlaiya corridor closed as workers go on strike
At least eighteen factories in the Birgunj-Pathlaiya industrial corridor
have been closed down due to a strike jointly called by different labour
unions citing the failure of the managements to implement the recent
agreement to hike the basic wage of workers.
Workers padlocked the main gates of the factories and staged sit-in
programme, demanding that the managements immediately raise the basic pay
by Rs 1300, as agreed during a tripartite (government-managements and
labour union) talks few days earlier.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, three labour unions - All Nepal Trade
Union Federation, G-FONT and Nepal Trade Union Congress had announced
strike in the industrial corridor.
Industries forced to close include multinational Surya Nepal, Hulas Steel
and Triveni Group's factories. nepalnews.com mk Dec 12 08
