CA committees formed

The Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting, Monday, has endorsed the formation of fourteen committees paving the way for starting the process of writing the constitution.

The various thematic committees under the CA have the duty to prepare drafts of statutes and fix procedures, among others.

The path to form the committees was cleared as all the parties submitted the list of their nominees as members of those committees.

There will be fourteen Constituent Assembly committees and nine legislative parliament committee apart from one more committee headed by CA chair.

Of the fourteen committees, one called 'Constitutional Committee' – authorized to prepare draft statute and submit the same to the full house of CA – has high-profile members including prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, main opposition party president Girija Prasad Koirala and so on.

Earlier the CA chairman Subas Nemwang had said that the CA secretariat has already designated staffs and arranged for physical facilities so that the committees can work earnestly from Tuesday and take up the task of writing the constitution.

Even though the committees were formed on Tuesday, the parties have missed the deadline of choosing chairpersons of the committees.
