Govt buckles up to take action against Himalmedia attackers
The government has directed the Minister for Information and Communication
to probe the attack on Himalmedia offices and personnel and take action
against those involved in the incident.
A cabinet meeting held Wednesday morning assigned the responsibility of
investigating all the incidents of attacks on press and initiate legal
action against its perpetrators to communication minister Krishna Bahadur
Mahara.
During the meeting Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal whose party, CPN
(Maoist), has come under fire after the assault on the Himalmedia, pledged
to suspend the Maoist union leaders who were involved in the incident,
according to Minister for Commerce and Industries Rajendra Mahato. PM
Dahal, according to the minister, also vowed to take legal as well as "organisational" action against the Maoist leaders.
Talking to journalists after the meeting, Minister Mahara said that he has
been given strict orders to solve the case by today evening. He said his
emphasis will be on holding talks with both sides involved in the
incident.
Similarly, Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam also vowed to bring the
perpetrators of the attack on Himalmedia to book.
He said that action has not been initiated against those involved in the
incident as a formal complaint has not been filed by Himalmedia against
