CIAA gives clean chit to former CoAS Thapa

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has given clean chit to former chief of Nepal Army Pyar Jung Thapa, who was accused of embezzlement of state fund.

The CIAA, which had interrogated Thapa several times over the alleged misuse of Rs 20 million state money, on Friday stated that Thapa has been given clean chit on the basis of the decision of a cabinet committee formed by the previous government to study the report of Rayamajhi Commission and recommend actions to people found guilty of suppressing the Janandolan-2 and misuse of state coffer.

The cabinet committee headed by then deputy prime minister K.P Sharma Oli had cleared the former NA chief of corruption charges.

Along with several other government officials and ministers in the erstwhile royal regime, the Rayamajhi Commission had named Thapa in corruption and had recommended legal action against him.

The anti-graft body also said further probe on the ex-army officer does not come under its purview, but it's a matter to be overseen by Nepal Army as per the Army Act. nepalnews.com mk Dec 26 08
