Nepali Americas Council urges agitators to help hold CA polls
The Nepali Americas Council (NAC) has urged the agitating parties in terai to help in holding the constituent assembly elections by deferring the implementation of some issues until after the polls.
“The government and the political parties should treat the Terai situation as a national crisis requiring urgent attention. An amicable resolution of the issues with the agitating Teraian parties would greatly enhance the prospects of a free, fair and peaceful CA election. NAC strongly believes that the upcoming CA elections should be held at any cost," reads a statement issued by NAC after its annual meeting.
It said NRNs in North America stand ready to play a positive role in convincing the parties in the conflict to reach this resolution. This might possibly be attained without resolving all outstanding issues of Madhesi, Janjati and Dalit rights, some of which could be addressed after the election, it says.
The annual function was attended by Nepali envoy to US Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise, Honorary Counsel for Canada Dr. Kunjar Sharma and Vice President of the of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Dev Man Hirachan.
NAC is a coordinating council of 27 Nepali organisations in North America. nepalnews.com ia Feb 20 08
