Donor conference to begin from Thursday

The government is hosting a major conference with the donors beginning Thursday in Kathmandu.

The Nepal Donors Consultative Meeting will be inaugurated on Thursday morning by Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.

“The consultation is aimed at strengthening relation between the government and our development partners,” said Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat.

“This is not a pledging conference. We will not be asking for pledges from donors. We want to share our information and experiences,” he said.

However, the two-day conference will also discuss the resource gap facing the government in its current three-year plan amid the ongoing peace process and its needs in reconstruction.

Meanwhile, on the eve of the consultation meeting, one dozen donor agencies held a press meet, Wednesday, to express concern over the Terai situation and supply crisis. They also expressed their willingness to help Nepal.

The consultative meeting will be participated by 150 representatives of around 50 bilateral and multilateral donor agencies. nepalnews.com sd Feb 21 08
