'A taste of Nepal' in US libraries

Nepalese Student Association (NSA) at University of Nevada (UNR), Reno, has lately been organising a series of programmes named 'A taste of Nepal comes to the library: Around the community' in collaboration with US public libraries in Reno, Nevada.

As a part of a series of four programmes at different libraries across the Reno area, NSA organized a third programme on January 19 in Incline Village library located in the Lake Tahoe area. Around 100 persons from the surrounding community participated in this event.

This programme was a result of partnership between READ (Rural Education and Development) Nepal, Washoe county library system in Nevada and NSA.

In these events, founder of READ Nepal, Dr. Antonia Neubauer highlighted the initiation of READ Nepal programmes and its current activities. Similarly, founder president of NSA Mr. Rajan Bista and current president of NSA Mr. Lekh Nath Adhikari presented a slide show presentation about Nepal and replied to the various questions asked by participants about Nepal. At these events, NSA also presented traditional Nepalese music and dance along with the handicrafts show and sample of some favorite foods from Nepal.

A final program of this series is scheduled for February 13, 2008 at 5:30 pm at Sparks library in Sparks, Nevada.

READ Nepal was launched in 1991 in a remote Himalayan village of Nepal to fund the building of libraries in Nepal and other countries as part of a global effort to increase literacy. READ has helped to establish more than 43 libraries across Nepal so far. nepalnews.com ag Jan 21 08
