Govt hikes POL prices again
In an unpopular move in the face of constituent assembly polls, the government on Monday announced substantial hike in the price of petroleum products.
Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) said the price of diesel has been increased to Rs 61 per liter up from Rs 56 while the rate of LP gas has been increased to Rs 1,250 per cylinder from Rs 1100. However, LP gas will cost 20 rupees cheaper in some Terai parts.
Likewise, kerosene will cost Rs 61 per litre, up by Rs 9.48.
Puru Risal, an official at the NOC, told Nepalnews that the price has been hiked due to rising price of oil in the international market. According to him, the rate of diesel and kerosene has been made equal following complaints of adulteration in diesel.
Students and people from lower income bracket will get fixed amount of subsidy on purchase of the petroleum products.
The NOC had hiked the price of petrol just four weeks earlier, citing its burgeoning losses and growing costs in the international market.
Consumer rights groups and student organisations had carried out angry protests for several days against the POL price hike. nepalnews.com mk Jan 21 08
