Dalits demand election on time
Urging the government to hold the Constituent Assembly election on time, people from the Dalit community took out a rally in Pokhara Friday.
Nepal Utpidit Jatiya Mukti Samaj, an organisation working for the welfare of the oppressed Dalit community, said they took to the streets to apply pressure on the government to hold the election on time stating only after that a democratic republic would be established, which in turn would guarantee the rights of the Dalit people.
The rally started from Sabhagriha Chowk with cultural dances and went around the town before congregating at Chipledhunga.
Addressing the gathering, Dalit leaders and activists threatened that if the government doesn't guarantee equal representation and 'progressive reservation' in all the organs of the state including civil service and other fields, they would wage a movement of their own. nepalnews.com ag Jan 27 08
