Mushroom mayhem claim lives of two minors, many fall sick
Two minors have died in rural Nepal after consuming poisonous mushroom brought from the jungle.
Five-year-old Dil Bahadur Rajali, son of Chitrabir Rajali of Birbas VDC-9 in Gulmi, died while undergoing treatment at the local health post Sunday morning. His condition had become very serious after consuming poisonous mushroom Saturday evening.
Among the four others who were taken ill after eating the poisonous mushroom curry in their dinner Saturday evening, Dhwanikala and Binita Rajali are undergoing medical treatment at the local primary health center, according to reports. The other two have already returned home after getting minor treatment at the health post.
Meanwhile, another minor has died in Palpa's Bhuwanpokhari VDC after consuming poisonous mushroom.
Sandip Pariyar, 8, who was undergoing treatment at the local Mission hospital, died Sunday morning. Like Dil Bahadur, Sandip condition had also deteriorated after consuming poisonous mushroom during his evening meal on Saturday.
Earlier, three of his siblings - Chandra Bahadur Pariyar, Nama and Yam Bahadur Pariyar - had died after consuming poisonous mushroom.
One other member of the family, who also had consumed the mushroom curry, is undergoing treatment at Mission Hospital in Tansen.
In a similar report, 11 members of a family in Sakhuwasabha district have been taken ill after consuming mushroom brought from the jungle.
Jayaram Kumal of Sankhuwasabha's Khadbari VDC including his son, daughter in law, and grandchildren had been taken ill after they had the mushroom curry.
Reports quoting local police said they have been admitted into Manakamana Polyclinic in Tumlingtar Sunday for treatment. nepalnews.com ag July 07 08
