Incessant rainfall during the past few days has caused havoc in villages of Siraha and Dadeldhura districts.
Due to the sudden rise in the water level of Bataha river caused by Saturday night's flooding which destroyed the embankment recently built by local villagers, Majhauliya 1 and 2 of Siraha district have been completely inundated.
As the flood waters have entered the village also, some 13 hundred families are now in danger of being displaced from their homes. As the water level continues to rise, the villagers have been forced to spend their night awake lest the flood sweeps away their houses.
The flood has also destroyed a huge tract of arable land in four different places of the district.
With the financial assistance of the VDC, the villagers had only recently built the 700 meter high embankment to safeguard the village against the floods waters.
Similarly, some two hundred families have been displaced from their homes due to flooding caused by incessant rain in Dadeldhura district. The displace families have left their inundated village to take refuge in the community forest.
The water level in the local river and stream has risen due to incessant rainfall from the past few days, forcing the residents of Simal Khet, Tatopani, Sarkunda, Sisamjhal, Thandajala, Sarkuda and Parigaun to flee to the nearby community forest. Only three days ago, the river had swept away the houses of 13 families from here.
The flooding has also destroyed paddy harvest and other crops, causing serious losses to local farmers. The rise in the river's water level has also obstructed Baitadi-Gokuleshwor and Khodpe-Bajhang road sections. nepalnews.com July 07 08
