Talking to Nepalnews on Friday, Dixit, the editor of
Nepali Times weekly, opined that ethnicity based federal
system is simply not possible for Nepal because more than
one hundred ethnic groups are living here. Many states
would not be able to sustain economically, he added.
Dixit also pointed out the need for consensus on the
framework of federal structure among the political
parties. According to him, eco-biology based provinces
like Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Bagmati would be a better
choice.
He further said that matters of national importance likedefence, foreign policy and economic policy should be
decided by the central government while others rights
should be vested on the state governments.
Dixit was of the view that misunderstanding among the
major parties has compounded the political deadlock. He
added that political leadership should realise that
people's mandate is for consensus among the parties
represented in the Constituent Assembly. nepalnews.com kp July 11 08
